Adobe Audition for Mac public beta now available!
One of the best audio editing programs for podcasting is Adobe Audition. It’s the Photoshop of audio production. It enables the user to use mutiple layers and provides a wealth of filters and editing tools. I have been using it for years to produce shows like the Catholic Insider, and I honestly can’t imagine doing any form of serious audio production without it.
For years, the Audition software was only available for Windows, but today, Adobe released a public beta of Audition for the Mac. The beta will work throughout the beta testing period. You need a Mac with a multi-core Intel processor and Mac OS X 10.5.7 or later.
Here is part of Adobe’s announcement:
Welcome to the public beta release of Adobe Audition for Mac. Adobe Audition for Mac brings modern audio post-production to the Mac platform. Familiar tools for audio editing, multitrack mixing and recording meet improved performance, greater workflow flexibility, and new features such as native 5.1 surround support and new effects. Plus, the best-of-breed audio sweetening and restoration tools in Audition make it easy to clean up production audio. With essential tools you can rely on for quick-completion projects, Audition for the Mac brings a fresh face to audio post-production.

Really interesting, Fr. Roderick. I a journalism course I’m taking, I just completed a how-to produce a podcast video (in process of uploading to youtube): just uploaded how-to video- check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp46-xMr1iQ
For the Special Chronicles Podcast (http://specialchronicles.tk/), the audio software I use is GarageBand on the Mac but based on attending the podcasting track at the CNMC MMX in Boston that you and cliff presented, I’ve been thinking of using a better audio software. Any suggestions on softwares??
Thanks for this article- I’ll continue to take a look at Adobe Audition for Mac.
P.S. Your earlier post today I shared with some classmates and journalism professor–really helped since we have to blog on a beat of our choice. I’m getting back into the process of blogging.
I’m curious how this stacks up to garageband?
Tom, As far as I know, Adobe Audition has more advanced editing features versus GarageBand is pretty basic in the editing. But then again, I personally use GarageBand and don’t have the money right now to purchase Adobe Audition, but based on Fr. Roderick talking about Adobe Audition, I’ve come to know how good this software is.
Where have I been?
Finally Audition (sort of) comes to the Mac. I’ll download the beta and check it out. I’m currently using Audacity for my podcast (http://stutteringiscool.com). It’s an ok program but it likes to crash and sometimes leaves blank spots of audio instead of saving. Of course, it’s an open source program so I can’t complain too much. Plus the price is right.
However, my first audio editor was Audition back in it’s Cool Edit days. Now THAT was a stellar and efficient audio editor to use! It was hard for me not to use Audition once I switched to Mac back in 2005.
